Report from the Open Door Event 2009
On 9th May 2009, and in wonderful sunshine, 400 animal friends made their way to the Tierschutzligadorf and joined us for the 2009 Open Door Event. It was lovely to meet some of our old residents and their families, even Husky-mix "Griffi", who lived at the Tierschutzligadorf for almost 2 years, travelled with his family all the way from Berlin.
In the dog and cat houses there was lots of activity and many questions about the animals were asked to their daily carers. In the days which followed the Event a total of 9 dogs and 2 cats left the Shelter to start a new life in new homes.
Part of the programme was an introduction of some of our residents and the dogs, Gismo, Rocco, Chila und Co. were on best behaviour. Even our fearful Sheppard-mix "Milka" overcame being shy and said hello to some of the visitors. It was also a chance to say hello to "Sula", "Milkav sister who came to see us with her family. Representing the Shelter's senior dogs were "Zotto", "Tina" and "Maya" who all enjoyed the attention from the many guests. And last, but not least, it was time for our visitors to meet the most junior of our Shelter residents, our little puppy "JT" who was accompanied by his mother, "Daga", and of course "JT" enjoyed a lot of attention.
Also the "BRH-Rescue Dogs" arrived from "Forst" and presented a great show amazing us all with their talents. If all goes well our Cocker Spaniel "Bobby" will have a bright future as a rescue dog since one of the dog handlers fell head over heels in love with this clever little dog. We could wish for no better future for "Bobby" as he would surely have lots of fun with the tasks at hand.
Both big and small guests were well provided for by Ms Andrea Zelmer and Ms Inge Bsufka who made sure that no one went hungry or thirsty throughout the day. Also our special four-legged friends were taken well care of by Ms Reinsch from 'ARAS-Tiernahrung' and our little Shelter cat 'Lilly' in particular found this a good place to be, where else does one find such delicious food. The Naparell family organised a small market and also at the Tombola many great prices were won.
Our smaller guests had fun engaging in activities such as painting and very popular was the many creative ideas for face paint.
Overall it was a wonderful and successful day and we are very grateful for the many donations made by our guests. A total amount of 1161,66 €€ was counted by the end of the Open Door Event, many many thanks. The money will be spent on building the new dedicated area for kittens and young cats. This project is becoming very urgent as only in the last couple of days we have received another 5 cats with a total of 23 kittens.
A BIG BIG THANK YOU to all who made donations and of course also to all who helped out and made this event possible. Thanks to you we had a wonderful day together.
With this Slide-Show we would like to share some of the great moments with you. Enjoy!
