B.A.R.F.
"We are BARF feeders." When saying this, we often get irritating look. BARF?? What's that?
BARF spells Bones And Raw Food and more specifically means that we feed our dogs according to the principles of how the wolf feeds. The Wolf is the forefather of the dog as we know it today but years of evolution have in many ways moved them far apart. But, not when it comes to feeding habits!
What do wolves eat? In the first place of course meat and that with fur, feathers, bones and intestines. In addition the wolf feed itself on berries and fruits and thereby consumes a varied diet containing all necessary nutrition and vitamins.
It is in accordance with these principles that B.A.R.F has developed. Of course we don't run out and catch and kill rabbits, chickens, ducks and other similar animals and feed them to our dogs! But raw meat plays a very important part in this kind of nutrition. Very important is that no raw pork meat and also no raw pork eatable intestine are feed to dogs! Good meats are considered; beef, lamb, veal, poultry, horse and rabbit.
As a rule of thumb:
30% plant products: these should be divided into: 40% vegetables, 40% cereals, 20% fruit
70% animal products: these should be divided into: 50% marbled flesh, 15% rumen/omasum, 15% eatable intestines, 20% bones/gristle with meat. Most important: all raw.
Whether you buy your meat from the butcher or at the supermarket, the possibilities are many, but I can in particular recommend Carne's Doggi. Here you will not only find a good variation but also a very good distribution served in zip bags at a good price and a splendid quality.

I am often being asked if I really feed my dogs bones of fowl! Yes I do! But especially here it is important that the bones are raw!When cooking bones of fowl they will be porous and split. If a dog eats cooked bones of fowl , it can have serious and terrible consequences which can lead to damage of the intestinal trakt which in the worse case scenario can lead to death.
6 years ago we changed the diet of our dogs to B.A.R.F. The results have been positive, also in the case when the dog is older and less active there has been no sign of weight gain and the dental condition is excellent. Also the fur is shiny and there have been less health problems.
I would like to underline another two advantages for any dog owner:
1. The food is free of any chemicals.
2. It is, against common belief, cheaper than canned food.
