Leo

Special Needs Animal since 25-07-2009

  • German Sheppard
  • male, castrated
  • born 2000
  • Shoulder height: 67cm

Leo former owner had to, with a heavy heart, leave him in our care when she had to sell her house and it wasn't possible to take him with her to the new accommodation. This wonderful big German Shepard had enjoyed a life outside in the yard and garden.

At the Shelter Leo lives in a shared dog area. He is house trained and is well behaved. All in all Leo is a very loving big bear of a dog. He gets very attached to the people around him, is friendly to everyone and loves attention. Due to his size Leo is of course a very strong dog but he is well behaved when given direct commands. Leo gets on very well with female dogs and with his former owner he even shared his space with a small male dog.

We wish for his wonderful dog a family who can provide lots of space and where Leo will be able to live as part of the family. A family with older children (Teenage age) would not be a problem and even the company of a nice female dog would make Leo very happy.

NEWS: Leo URGENTLY needs a new home!

During the many thunderstorms we have experienced lately Leo has shown extreme fear! It reached a point where he tried to escape through a window in which he hurt his paw.

Leo panics during thunderstorms when he is alone but as soon as he is being comforted and in the company of people he quickly relaxes. The problem is that during the night there are no carers to comfort him and make him relax.

He is very attached to people and loves being around humans. He is house trained, well behaved and gets on well with other dogs. It should be noted that with a weight of 43 Kg Leo is a big strong dog. He needs people who he will respect but who at the same time can offer him a home where he can find peace and be part of the family.
